THE HIGH TATRAS ARE THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN RANGE IN THE CARPATHS!

I am browsing through my archive of photos that I have taken some years ago and because the winter time is getting closer and closer, so what about an alpine view of snow covered hills in the Slovak High Tatras for today?

The dominant peak shown on this photo is called the Kolovy peak and it has an impressive altitude of 2418 meters / 7933 feet above the sea-level.

I have taken this photo during the February of a cold winter in 2008; standing at the location of neighboring Lomnicky peak which is, with its altitude of 2634 meters / 8641feet above the sea-level, the second highest peak in the High Tatra mountains.

The Lomnicky peak it is a very attractive destination even for the recreational tourists due to its easy accessibility by several cable railways leading from its top as far as to the Tatranska Lomnica town and vice versa.

The mountains of High Tatras are the most popular natural attraction in the heart of Europe – Slovakia. They are visited by hundreds of thousands visitors each year, during all seasons. These mountains belongs to the Tatras national park, TANAP.

An interesting fact is that the Tatra Mountains are actually the highest mountain range in the whole Carpathian Mountains, so if you happen to be in Slovakia during the wintertime don’t miss these mountains! ;)

Looks fantastic! I was lucky enough to go to Morskie Oko in Poland last year which I believe is part of the same range. I wanted to go up Mount Giewont but sadly didn't get the opportunity.
