Although the tops of the Orava castle are covered in snow, you can see what the view of this castle looks like at this angle during the winter months of the year. In this particular picture, you can see that the trees are all barren and that the roofs of this castle are white with snow. With little to no leaves on the branches of the trees it is easier to see parts of the castle that you wouldn’t see when the trees are full of greenery during the spring and summer months of the year. The Orava castle is located in the Oravsky Podzomak village which is near located near the Orava River. Although the Orava castle is indeed a castle, it is made up of an assortment of separate buildings of various sizes, structures and historical dating. The construction of the castle has taken place from the beginning of the 13th century up until the 17th century. It is made up of various architectural styles , rebuild by will of various owners who have come and gone, adding new ideas and great variety to it. The castle alone stands on a rock that measures 112 meters (367 feet) in height. It is a place that you absolutely don’t want to miss out on visiting if you happen to be touring the town of Oravsky Podzamok. The oldest areas of the castle are the upper parts and the middle of the castle. One the inside of the orava castle you will see that there are various paintings of high historical quality, which allow the castle to be very nice and decorative. The fortification of this castle dates all the way back to the Halstatt era when it was common for various stone fortresses to be built. The Romanesque Citadel is the highest and the oldest part of the Orava Castle. Other parts of this castle were built mostly in the Renaissance style during the 16th century.
