WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET THIS FELLOW ON A WALK TROUGH THE COUNTRYSIDE?

Here is a telephoto wildlife view of wild boar in the mud that I took during my walks through the countryside in Liptov region, northern Slovakia. Wild pigs or wild boars belong to the family of Suidae and they fall under the genus Sus. Boars are considered as the wild ancestors of pigs and they are widely native to many parts of Europe, Slovakia including.

These animals have large heads and short legs. Their skin is covered with stiff bristles, fur and they are either dark grey or blackish brown in color usually. However, I realize that in Asia there are also many light-skinned boars too.

Wild boars are omnivorous in nature. They eat just about anything they get. They are mostly known to feed on grass, carrion, berries, nuts, tubers, roots, reptiles and insects. In case of danger wild boars behave in different ways. It depends greatly on the specific situation and whether they are female or male. Females usually attack their enemies and end up biting the opponents. On the contrary, males often attack with their tusks.

As you can see this one is a female because the tusks are not developed in it. Luckily for me it was frozen still and pretty calm, until I pointed camera's lens directly to it's eyes; taking pictures in rapid succession, one after another.

When this boar heard the clicking sound of the camera it almost immediately ran away as fast as it could with the utmost speed towards the nearest shrubs and bushes.

Although the whole thing took just a moment, I finally managed to take at least a few usable – sharp and focused – photos of it, one of which I share with you here at my blog and social networks. I hope you like it! ;)
