DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE EMPEROR MAXIMILIAN I OF MEXICO BATHED?!

An autumn view showing historical building of the "Modry Kupel", literally the "Blue Spa", mineral-rich thermal spring located in the spa of Turcianske Teplice, in the southern part Turcianska valley, about 25 km south of Martin, Turiec region, central Slovakia.

This historical landmark is the late-Classicistic polygonal domed pool house build in the 1885. The town of Turcianske Teplice is one of the oldest spa towns in Europe; however prior to the year 1946 it was originally known as the Stubnianske Teplice.

The first written record of this town dates back to the 1281 when King Ladislaus IV of Hungary gave the lands with springs located in this area to some further unspecified count named Peter.

It is quite interesting that this spa later became popular even with royalty, including many kings and emperors; from which it is worth mentioning King Sigismund of Hungary and Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico!

The hot springs of Turcianske Teplice are used for therapeutic treatment of various diseases, especially diseases of the kidney and urinary tract. They have temperature between 38-46 degrees Celsius / 100-114 degrees Fahrenheit. Some of these waters are intended for bathing, whereas the others are intended for drinking; for these purposes the hot water is sometimes cooled down to the desired temperature.
